Interested in Freemasonry?

A clear, practical path for men of good character who want to learn what Freemasonry is—without games, delays, or silence.

Come meet the brethren

Find us in north Houston

We meet in the Woodland Lodge No. 1157 building, at 8337 Sweetwater Lane, Houston, TX 77037.

Friday breakfast begins at 9:00 a.m. Stated meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Call ahead to confirm the schedule.

Your first visit
  1. Call or text ahead so we can confirm the schedule.
  2. Come for breakfast and conversation on Friday at 9:00 a.m.
  3. Ask questions, meet the brethren, and visit again whenever you wish.

No commitment is expected from a visitor. Portions of ritual instruction are reserved for qualified Masons.

An open invitation

We do not recruit. You must ask of your own free will and accord.

Albert G. Mackey, the leading 19th-century authority on Masonic law, stated the principle with characteristic force: it is wholly in opposition to all our laws and principles to ask any man to become a Freemason. We must not seek—we must be sought.

That ancient rule remains in force. At the same time, the Laws of the Grand Lodge of Texas (Article 393a) expressly permit a Mason who has strong reason to believe a man is of good moral character and otherwise qualified to extend a neutrally worded invitation, answer proper questions about the Fraternity, explain the petition process, and then leave the decision entirely to the man himself. We follow both the ancient principle and the written law of Texas.

You are welcome to visit as many times as you want or need. We will invest our time with you. This is not a sales process. It is an opportunity for serious men to meet other serious men and decide, over time, whether Freemasonry and this Lodge are the right fit.

A Lodge distinguished by experience

On Houston’s north and northwest side

This Lodge is distinguished by the quality and consistency of the men who regularly attend.

Stated meetings commonly include two or three District Instructors, a former Chairman of the Grand Lodge Committee on Work, a District Deputy Grand Master representing the current Grand Master, Past Grand Masters, Gold Trowel recipients, and a strong group of experienced Past Masters. Few lodges on the north or northwest side of Houston can match this concentration of ritual knowledge, leadership experience, and institutional memory.

More than sixteen members regularly hold Grand Lodge of Texas Certificates of Proficiency (Articles 132 and 132a), the majority of them Class A. These brethren know the authorized work and know how to teach it. In addition, members of this Lodge are regularly consulted by the standing Committee on Work concerning changes and improvements to the Masonic ritual in Texas.

Friday mornings

The open door

Every Friday morning the Lodge holds a School of Instruction designed, in part, for men who are exploring Freemasonry.

  • 9:00 a.m. – Breakfast is served. We do not accept monetary donations for the meal. The breakfast is our gift of hospitality.
  • Approximately 10:00 a.m. – Everyone moves into the lodge room for public information, calendar items, and open discussion suitable for visitors.
  • When the tiled ritual practice begins, guests are asked to step out of the lodge room. You are welcome to remain in the building—dining hall or elsewhere—and continue the conversation with experienced Masons.

Come as often as you need. We will spend the time with you.

What this Lodge stands on

Brotherly love and truth

Brotherly love and truth—the source of all virtue—are not slogans here. Freemasonry is serious business. We treat it that way. If you are a good man seeking the same, come meet us.

We stand on our reputation. We guarantee that a man of good character who visits Billy Wayne Tinsley Daylight Lodge No. 1458 will be received with genuine hospitality and will leave with a clear, accurate understanding of what this Lodge offers.

The problem we solve

Response matters

The Grand Lodge of Texas has repeatedly identified a core recruiting obstacle: many lodges have no website, no working email, and no reliable response to inquiries. Serious men who try to learn more often encounter silence.

We answer. We have a functioning website, a published phone number, and a weekly opportunity to meet face-to-face with proficient, experienced Masons. If you reach out, you will receive a response.

Qualifications

Stated plainly

To petition under the Grand Lodge of Texas you must:

  • Be a man at least 18 years of age
  • Believe in a Supreme Being
  • Be of good moral character
  • Come of your own free will and accord
  • Be able to be recommended by members of the Lodge after they have come to know you

We discuss these requirements openly so there is no ambiguity.

Next step

If you are a good man, come meet us on a Friday morning or prior to one of our stated meetings. Call or text (281) 798-0472 in advance so we can confirm the schedule and expect you.

Stated meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Woodland Lodge No. 1157 building at 8337 Sweetwater Lane, Houston, Texas 77037. The Friday school is the better place to begin the conversation.

We look forward to meeting men who are prepared to take Freemasonry seriously.
